Radio Detective Story Hour Episode 278 – Richard Diamond, Private Investigator (Christmas show repeat)

Dick PowellIt’s Christmas time and this week’s podcast is a special one! Eleven years ago, I featured this on the Radio Detective Story Hour. Staying in the vein of our detective theme, I present a variation on Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” with the puckish Dick Powell in his Richard Diamond hat.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

Perhaps I would have enjoyed it had you cleaned up the sound enough to understand what they were saying.

    Audacity is free.

Well, Mr. Scrooge, if you had listened to it, you would have found it was fine. Audacity might be free but I prefer to use a more professional program. If you know anything about many of the otr programs in circulation, you’ll find many have deteriorated generations in available copies. While my collection has many first gen copies, this was not one that was available.

Here’s a challenge…why don’t you find me a good gen copy and I’ll use it?

Wonderful programs. I’m learning a lot about the old radio actors and how things were done. Great stories too! Live it!

  4. Eliezer Pennywhistler says:

I stopped listening part-way through as I could not understand what anyone was saying (over quality Aperion Intimus speakers and a Denon amp).

If you think the audio was fine, then you do.

My point was that basic audio clean-up programs like Audacity are widely available. A simple judicial bass cut was (is) called for here. If you have access to “more professional” EQ programs then use them.

I realize that RDSH is a volunteer after-work-hours hobby and your time is limited, but hiss, hum and rumble are easy to eliminate or reduce with simple subtractive correction (assuming good monitors and good judgement).

Thanks for the episode Jim! I hope the book is going well!
